Innovative Research to Support Nutritional Health

What We Do

The Arcand Lab is dedicated to improving population health through research, innovation, and partnerships that advance healthy eating and chronic disease prevention, including cardiovascular disease.

Led by Dr. JoAnne Arcand, our team studies how nutrition policies, behaviours, and environments shape what people eat, and how evidence can be used to create healthier communities in Canada and around the world.

Our research focuses on improving diet quality, including reducing dietary sodium intake, and developing practical solutions that translate science into everyday action. We conduct a broad range of research to understand the factors that influence eating behaviours across the lifespan, from national surveillance and behavioural studies to clinical research and policy evaluation.

The lab also leads projects that improve nutrition education and strengthen food environments in schools, hospitals, and communities. A major part of this work involves developing and evaluating innovative digital tools such as the Sodium Calculator, Sodium 101, Foodbot Factory, and Sodium NavigatorHF, that support nutrition assessment and education, and engage people in healthy eating.

The Arcand Lab is a collaborative, interdisciplinary space that brings together students, scientists, clinicians, educators and policy partners. We are passionate about creating meaningful change through science, and about training the next generation of researchers and health professionals who will continue to improve nutrition and well-being of people worldwide.
